The Swing, Lindy and Charleston Song List
This is the full list of songs that we typically have at our disposal for class. All songs are listed by beats per minute (BPM) from slowest to fastest. We've included links to YouTube when we could find the exact songs that we use and all of the links open up the Lindy/Charleston playlist on our Down Right Dance YouTube channel.
Lindy Hop Tempos
For Lindy, we typically start everyone around the 100 BPM range and then work our way up. In general (for this geographical region), slow tempo Lindy is 120BPM, mid-tempo Lindy is 150 BPM-170B PM, and fast tempo is around 180 BPM and up.
East Coast Swing Tempos
In class, we typically start everyone around the 140 BPM range and go on up from there. The gauges on tempo tends to line up with what is mentioned above for Lindy.
Charleston Tempos
In general, Charleston tends to have faster tempos than either Lindy or ECS. While we tend to start everyone around the 140 BPM range, this tends to be on the "slow" side of things. Mid-tempo for Charleston tends to be around the 170 BPM-185 BPM and the fast tempos lie in the 210 BPM+ range.
